Ok being that we are in the auto information industry and have all of the latest news on vehicles, you would think that would make it easy when it comes to buy in new car…Well this editor begs to differ! First I will outline the main dilemmas and then I will break down the possible vehicle choices. Please note, these choices are not set in stone and I welcome any feedback that the readers may have.
- SUV, Wagon, Coupe, Sedan, or Hybrid/Alt Fuels.
Why so many different categories?
Well, my wife and I are starting a family so the Americans with the big SUV lifestyle seems like the no brainer. So what’s the problem?
SUV’s are typically slower, less agile, gas guzzlers and take up considerably more room in the garage. To handle the agility and speed issues, I have narrowed the field down to the Porsche Cayenne S, the Audi Q7 4.2, and the Range Rover Sport HSC (the Supercharged is out of the price range) or the new BMW X5.
As for the Wagons (for you haters) the choices are pretty limited (and very cool). My thought is that if you are driving a wagon, you need to make up for the cool in horsepower. The choices in the price range are; the Audi S4 Avant, Audi S6 Avant or the Mercedes E55 Wagon.
Coupes? Where do they fall in this mix? Well practicality wise, they are out of the picture, especially if kids are coming into the home shortly. I think this possibility is still on the table due to the point that the New Audi S5 is a fantastic looking car and has plenty of room in the back seat for a child! Thinking back to my parents, they had coupes for year, so why the need for the SUV. As you can see I am still trying to justify this!!
The list of Luxury Sport Sedans that we could choose from is endless, but I have narrowed down the list to just a few. My first choice would be the Mercedes CLS63, but the CLS 550 is closer to the price range. The rest of the choices include the Audi RS4 or S4, the Mercedes E550 and waiting for the 2008 CTS-V delivery (and reviews).
Hybrids seem a little out of place with all of the muscle above, so why are they there? I guess it is because our conscience is a powerful decision maker. My main issue with alternative fuels and hybrids at this point is that they barely practical and more importantly they lack the desirable fun of the vehicles listed above. I strongly believe that the industry and vehicles produced will be changing within the next couple of years, the problem is, I need a new vehicle now. So what are my choices? What about a E85 GM vehicle? Well the closest station with ethanol pumps is approximately 20 miles away and it is the only one scheduled (not even open yet) for West Los Angles. I can’t even comprehend how busy this station will be. I am still not willing to discount this choice and we are keeping our Espionage ears to the ground for some desirable alt fuel vehicle to drop out of the sky and trump (or at least come close to) the vehicles above…
I wanted to get this down so you readers could help me out! I would also like to narrow down this list b/f I actually visit the dealerships. I would also like to mention that I have never driven any of these vehicles..
What???
Still go for...
Still go for SUV or wagon. It reached my standards. I got some kids at home, I like them because of the space and the features.
Also into hybrids. Can you say some hybrid SUVs?
